Programs

Chemistry for a rapidly changing world.

Chemistry, the interactions of atoms, ions, and molecules with each other and with their surroundings, is fundamental to understanding the materials and processes that make up our environment, our technology and ourselves.

Undergraduate Programs

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program, accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS), offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide a strong foundation in the chemical sciences. The program includes a core set of required courses complemented by electives that allow students to deepen their expertise or explore interdisciplinary interests. Students engage with both fundamental and advanced theoretical concepts, supported by a robust laboratory component that emphasizes hands-on experience with modern instruments and techniques in state-of-the-art facilities. Early involvement in undergraduate research is strongly encouraged, and the curriculum also emphasizes the development of essential written and oral communication skills critical for success in a variety of professional pathways.

Under this program, eligible senior-year students may apply to the M.S. program and begin taking graduate-level courses during their fourth and fifth years. This allows them to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree within five years, while continuing to receive their undergraduate financial aid during the fifth year. Because research is a key component of the M.S. program, students with substantial undergraduate research experience are best positioned to succeed in this accelerated track.

A limited number of exceptional students in the School of Science are invited typically during their sophomore year to join an accelerated program that integrates undergraduate and Ph.D. research. This pathway enables students to begin doctoral research early and potentially complete the Ph.D. within seven years. Financial support is also provided for summer research and throughout the graduate portion of the program.
